1910s WW1 Military Centre Fold News Print Picture

Large 1915/16 double page center fold supplement from "The Illustrated London News". Made to be removed from the newspaper; kept as a souvenir/poster. Other supplements from the same paper & era are available (see other listings). I believe these all to be originals, not reproductions, due to the collection they came from. "The German Poison Belt: Colour-Effects of the Enemy's Diabolical Asphyxiation Gases near Ypres" by John Deb G. Bryan. Showing the Zouaves & Turcos leaving the trenches near Langemarck, West Flanders, Belgium after the Germans poison gas attack. The text underneath describes the event & aftermath. Dr Haldane went on to create an early gas mask. Sadly Capt Bertram (likely James Knowles Bertram) was killed during The Somme the next year. A rare, important article from WW1 that altered chemical warfare & protective equipment thereafter. Size Approx: 59cm x 41.5cm Some wear, scuffs, slight edge creases/marks (right edge has a small missing section from a tear) mainly round the border due to age & a centre crease due to being inside the original paper. Possibly a pen mark in the sky (may be part of the print). Several marks on the back. Very good condition overall....more
