1930s "Thrills" Halloween Thriller Art Deco Book

A large vintage rare and collectable hardback compendium of tales of twenty stories of crime, mystery, horror and thrillers! Authors include John Gawsworth, Oswell Blakeston (pseudonym of Henry Joseph Hasslacher), Edgar Jepson (also as the pseudonym R. Edison Page) & Anthony Ludovici amongst others. A wonderful book with some gorgeous illustrations by Norman Keene as well as a brilliant front cover showing a hand dropping a sword in front of a castle like window at night with the moon and ominous silhouettes as well as a bold geometric spine design (very Fritz Lang art deco movie poster-esque!). Circa 1930 - some sources say 1930, others 1936 although the latter year is likely being confused with a similarly titled book (the date pencilled inside as a gift/keepsake is 1938 so it's definitely no later than that). Some wear/marks to the cover, someone's name & date are written in the front in pencil, a few marks/tiny edge tears to/on some pages, in places the pages have slightly come away from the spine (not individually loose/missing), the pages have storage/foxing marks on the sides that are visible when the book is closed & it has a slight musty smell from previous poor storage....more
