Circa 1900 - 1920 Beautiful and unusual antique brass door tapper in the shape of an elephant head - the trunk is articulated. I think this is a door tapper, rather than a door knocker. These were designed to be mounted next to a bedroom door to allow visitors to quietly get the attention of the room’s occupants with a light tapping sound. As with all my antique and vintage pieces this has evidence of its previous life adding to its uniqueness, character and charm - this is in great condition with only minimal signs of wear.
