French antique brass iron with decorative scroll work detail and wooden handle. "Sad" irons would be filled with charcoal or hot coals and used to press your clothing. This is a highly decorative example. It has a swing arm fastening at the front to secure the lid which lifts, to allow the coals to be placed inside. Copper rivets on lid.
