This antique faience plate from Saint-Clement, France was made C.1880. It is decorated with a blousy pink rose tied in a bouquet with green foliage, with a pink feathered edge. A quintessential example of early 19th-century French ceramics. Great antique condition. Please note this plate was hand made using the traditional method of "faience", a tin based glaze notable for its brilliance. As the glaze was fired at a lower temperature than porcelain sometimes the glaze cracks and chips when used. However there is only one small chip on this plate, slightly miraculous given its age!
