A pretty antique hexagonal Chinese pottery ginger jar, Shekwan /Shiwa jar. Hexagonal pots such as these were handmade in the late 1800´s - early 1900s to ship and store ginger, and no doubt some other pickled vegetables. Today, it can be used to store spices, as a flower vase, or simply be decorative or part of a collection. It really adds a lovely pop of colour to any interior, be it minimalist or farmhouse rustic! This one looks to be ca 1900s or earlier, judging from the colour of the unglazed bottom, and is a vibrant blue with plant / flower / mushroom motif panel sides. The bottom is unglazed and there are no makers marks. It is in good condition with a slight age related iridescent gloss to the glaze and some slight chipping to the top as shown in photos. There are many charming irregularities due to the handmade nature of the pot. Please look at our other items for more antique, vintage and retro furniture and homeware...more
