Antique Pearline Creamer Jug & Sugar Bowl Set by Davidson Glass. Measurements are as follows ~ Jug: 7cm Height, 6cm Opening, 6cm Base Sugar Bowl: 14cm x 11cm opening, 3cm Height, 10cm x 6cm Base The combination of vibrant Kingfisher blue and creamy white, contrasted with ornate pattern pressed into this Victorian glass tea set was an instant win for us! This set was created by British company George Davidson & Co in 1889 during the Victorian era and has the registration number 130643 which is stamped on the dish. Named the "643 Suite" by Davidson's and known as "Brideshead" by American collectors, this Pearline glass set is both decorative and functional, and the distinctive colours mean that it remains collectible today. The contrasting colours of Pearline glass were created by mixing chemicals into the glass such as arsenic (!!) which caused a reaction to the parts exposed to heat during the cooling process, causing them to turn white. Although other companies at the time were trying to produce similar effects, this particular colour combination of a white opalescent edge on turquoise blue glass was pretty much unique to Davidson & Co....more
