The Sasanian Empire or Sassanid Empire, also known as the Second Persian Empire or Neo-Persian Empire, was the last Iranian empire before the early Muslim conquests of the 7th–8th centuries AD. The area spanned what is now modern day east India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and into the west - which accounts for the mix of motifs, colourings, figures, and materials used across not only art, but functional items.
