Cheerful lidded pot designed by Raija Uosikkinen between 1962 and 1965 for the Arabia Finland Pomona range. Red and Black Currants motif. Uosikkinen drew inspiration from the garden suburbs surrounding Arabia’s Helsinki Factory, applying stylised fruit motifs to (appropriately enough) jam pots, and later a range of tableware including bowls, plates, mugs and jugs. The Pamona series proved successful for Arabia both at home in Finland and overseas, striking a particular chord in America where the bright colours and simplified shapes echoed similar themes in the emerging Pop Art scene.
