Blanket box / storage coffee table

This is an upcycled vintage sewing machine case. It’s been given a bit of TLC, so that it fits in the context of a modern home. A new solid wood base has been added. The exterior is a combination of dark wood and paint. The middle sections and lid have been finished with a hard wax oil, that has the effect of enhancing the wood tones. This offers a nice contrast with the sides, that have been painted in dark blue India ink. The inside has been painted in a vibrant contemporary Inca Orange, before being finished with a matt varnish. The lid is hinged, whilst the removeable chain is a nice decorative as well as practical touch. The box has been well used, and does display relevant age / usage marks, that are characterful. It’s a highly functional item, that works in a number of settings throughout the home - be it as a storage box in the living room or bedroom, or even as a small storage coffee table, with the addition of a set of hairpin legs or castors.
