1940/50s Utility CC41 (649) set of 4 chairs CC41 utility furniture was produced in the UK during and directly after world war II. The furniture was produced under government scheme which was designed to cope with raw material shortages and rationing of their usage. Introduced in 1942, the Utility furnture company scheme continued into post-war austerity and lasted until 1952. This is for a matching set of four windsor style wheelback dining chairs Arched back, with spindles and a central wheel plaque with wood turned legs The chairs are marked CC41 649 underneath, with a W.W engraved stamp to the rear of the seat After researching the markings the 649 relates to the maker (when matched up to records) is Thomas Glenister Ltd, Temple Works, High Wycombe. The W.W may refer to the person who made the chairs or something else.
