This is an early example of a Chalwyn Pilot hurricane lantern, in great working condition with some wear & rust as shown. This is due to its age and purpose, which only adds to the allure of this extremely collectible & useful lamp. It is still providing light & warmth in dark & cold times as it has for over 80 years. The Chalwyn company formed in 1943 by Wyndham Hewitt initially in France & ran from Poole from 1952 by its first MD Jack Drewett. George Wild Ltd was the major distributor of 'Pilot' for Chalwyn in Uk after WW2 as can be seen from an advertisement from C.1945 detailing the then, 'new' hurricane lantern....more
