Rule Britannia Lovely souvenir from the 1851 Crystal Palace Great Exhibition. Amazing to think this little cup and saucer are over 170 years old! Small, dainty cup and saucer it is made of white porcelain and decorated with gold accents, featuring a leaf-shaped saucer and a cup with a scalloped rim and wave-like patterns The writing on the saucer has wear as well as gold wear on the handle and throughout the cup and saucer but it’s in pretty good condition considering. Please note there is a small chip on the bottom of the cup illustrated in the photos. The Crystal Palace was originally built in Hyde Park, London, for the Great Exhibition of 1851. After the exhibition, it was moved and rebuilt in Sydenham in 1854. Souvenirs, like this demitasse cup and saucer, were commonly produced to commemorate the event.
