This mortar and pestle was made by Emily as part of an Effigy Pottery collection and is a one of a kind hand-built sculpture. It was sculpted using traditional coil building techniques before the legs, shaped like whelk shells and arc pieces were added. It is finished in a black cobalt and copper glaze that is dark with areas breaking through to dark mossy greens and deep blues. This item is decorative, but it is also functional, if you really want to crush ingredients in style!
