This very large, and rare example of Wedgwood's popular urn shaped mantle vase, dates to 1958 and is a most striking piece. Its jet-black satin Ravenstone glaze was introduced by Norman Wilson in the 1930s and highlights it sculptural form and classically inspired beauty. A soft, tactile piece, it would be wonderful filled with seasonal blooms on a sill or console. H: 24cm (9.5") x 19cm (7.5") diameter at the rim x and 12cm (4 7/8") diameter at the base. Excellent vintage condition, showing only very minor signs of wear and use throughout. It has a very small irregularity in its glaze at it outer rim (from manufacture) image 7 which is very inconspicuous.
