Goofus Roses in the Snow early carnival glass bowl

This Roses in the Snow patterned bowl was made by Indiana Glass between 1910-20. The finish is known as Goofus Glass. Goofus Glass is considered the first type of carnival glass so this design and bowl led on to great things with the creation of carnival glass. As with most Goofus Glass and Roses in the Snow bowls, the finish has worn and come away in areas and I have highlighted this as best as possible in the images. Please be aware of this before purchasing. Sadly, these early Goofus Glass bowls will not be in perfect condition and this one is no different. Goofus Glass is an American phrase for this glass and in the UK this is known as pressed glass. Nowadays, the phrase 'Goofus' refers more to the enamelling process, rather than the glass itself. The process to create this design involved applying a unfired enamel to the underside of the antique glassware. As it was cheaply made at the time and given away at carnivals and fairs, it soon become known as carnival glass. This pretty bowl measures 9 inches in diameter and is 3 inches high with a nicely scalloped rim.
