A brilliantly executed mid century modernist seascape composition, executed in oil onto canvas. Distinctively modernist in style, the artist here has played with shape, form and colour to build up this composition of boats in a port. The long repetitive lines of the masts juxtapose against the rectangular and circular shapes on the boats, as well as the triangular shapes of the sails. These distinct shapes then contrast again with the more fluid forms of the reflection in the water. The artist applies broader, and more expressive strokes to the area of reflection, whereas the top half of the composition is more controlled and form focused. This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs as shown in close ups.
