Very unique little decor piece of a beautiful blue butterfly painted on an hand turned wooden egg and signed on the back by the artist, Mary Cane in 1983. The butterfly is an Emperor Morpho Peleides which is found in Mexico, Central/Southern America, Paraguay and Trinidad. According to the inscription on the back it is '... painted on Tapir from an old post found on the Savanna'. On researching I found that Tapir is only found in Madagascar which makes this quite a unique find. The egg measures 9cm high, about 6.5cm wide and weighs 185g.
