Not often available, this is House 2 in the Bagdad series of seven houses, designed by Bertil Vallien in 1960 for Gustavsberg, Sweden. Made from brown stoneware, each building is hand-coloured. This piece has a brown body and roof and a grey top with blue dots. Although initially appearing simple, the beauty of these pieces is in their gorgeous and tactile detail. The piece is stamped Gustavsberg, Bagdad, BW and the building number - 2. BW is for Bertil Wallin - Vallien’s original name. he later changed it to avoid confusion with a silversmith of the same name. Unfortunately at some point in its history it has been dropped and the top of the roof has come off and been glued back on - see pics which also form part of the description. The price reflects this, but I’m happy to receive offers. A lovely piece from Vallien’s most famous ceramic series that still has plenty of historic and decorative appeal!
