Dating from the early 20th century Meiji period, the characters, which vary across three faces boldly display the name of the saké merchant and prefecture in broad brush strokes of blue glaze. The bottles have wonderful commensurate pits and firing marks that accentuate the provincial production methods employed These bottles with their simple beauty convey an archetypal expression of provincial Japan and its natural aesthetic.
