A fabulous collectible vintage solid brass tortoise trinket box with a hinged shell. He is attractive with a lovely shiny smooth brass patina enhanced with engraved designs. The shell is particularly well made and has a lovely texture and appearance. The reptile’s four leathery wrinkled legs and neck are wonderfully observed and realistically depicted. He has a delightful smiling face. Made with care by a craftsman. The shell lifts off thanks to a hinge on the back, which is in perfect working order. The shiny brass underside shows what this tortoise may have looked like when first made. The brass is vintage so has a couple of whitish marks, which are residue from cleaning.
