This is a mid-century advertising mirror for Le Chat Noir( Black cat) cabaret in Paris, France, which Théophile Steinlen designed. Steinlen was a French artist and printmaker who was born in Switzerland. He was known for his political activism and collaboration with anarchist and socialist press. The creator, host, and owner of the cabaret was Louis Rodolphe Salis, credited with creating the modern cabaret. At Le Chat Noir, patrons could sit at tables with alcoholic drinks and enjoy various forms of entertainment. Did you know that Le Chat Noir, meaning "The Black Cat" in French, was a popular entertainment venue in the artistic Montmartre area of Paris during the 19th century?
