The Lower Sioux Indian Community is a federally-recognized Indian tribe located in south central Minnesota, one of many tribes that made up the Lakota Sioux of the Great Plains. As they were a nomadic people, they were actually not really known for their pottery, but more the basket weaving and quill work, as they were light to travel with. Pottery, such as this piece, was likely more developed as part of the tourist trade, to help support the local communities.
