Vintage Mid Century Modern Picquot Teapot six cup teapot, launched in 1947. Barrage & Boyd, a company based in Northampton, manufactured vacuum cleaners using aluminium from their own foundry. Looking to increase their range of products the company settled on high quality home products which could be produced using their existing facilities. This led to the discovery that if magnesium was added to aluminium polishing could achieve a shine and look similar to silver. This new material became known as magnailium. The first design was for a kettle but production was delayed by the Second World War. The kettle, eventually launched in 1946, was a huge success with its distinctive shape. Each was cast in one piece to avoid leaks with a heat resistance handle of natural wood usually sycamore. The spout with its distinctive shape was designed to be non-drip ‘ensuring smooth pouring.’ The engraved mark on the bottom is Picquot which was introduced as the range name from 1951....more
