A large and very confidently executed modernist composition in oil, framed and ready to hang. Rich and saturated colours fill the canvas, composed in rectangular blocks of contrasting colours. A group of figures are seen seated in the field, presumably taking a rest from a hard day’s work in the field. Both the landscape as well as the figures have been reduced to an outline of forms – the artist has focused on the formal qualities of the scene, emphasising form, colour, shape and line over any realistic details. The result of this is an almost completely abstract composition in non realistic colours that captures the imagination. This excellent painting is housed in a wide profile gilt frame that illuminates the painting beautifully. Both frame and painting are in very good vintage condition.
