It merged with the Adolph Coors Company in 2005 to form Molson Coors. As the oldest brewery in North America, it has been producing beer on its original site since its inception. John Molson arrived in Montreal from England in 1782 and began working at the Thomas Loyd Brewery. In 1784, he sued Loyd for debt repayment, leading to Loyd admitting to the crime and all of his brewery buildings being auctioned.
