An absolutely stunning & rarely seen pair of Pernilla 69 Chairs & Ottoman designed by Bruno Mathsson for Dux of Sweden. As the name suggests these were designed in 1969 as a re-edition of Bruno Mathsson earlier 1930’s Pernilla chair design. Mathsson is considered one of the founders of ergonomic design having been inspired to create the Pernilla chair by sitting in a snowdrift, there are no straps or springs to these chairs only the innovative ergonomic “sling” . These ones probably date from the mid 70’s & are in excellent condition with no stretch or splits to the re-enforced nylon “slings”, wonderful patina to the leather pads & no loose joints in the molded beech plywood frames, however as with all of these chairs I’ve ever seen the leather straps attaching the headrests to the frame had perished, I have remedied this by securing new leather to the back of these & are good for another 50+ years. Unusually these ones have original ebonised black frames, having never seen any others like this I can only think they are a special top of the range edition, they are also stamped on the back stretcher for authenticity.
