Spectacular Qing Dynasty stacking hat boxes with red interior. I'm told that these date to the mid to late Qing (Manchu) dynasty and unlike many of the older pieces from Southern China made for officials, these were made for wealthy Shanghainese or foreigners living in the 'Paris of Asia' between 1850 and 1920 and so were of better quality. The boxes have been gently cleaned and lightly buffed - they have a lovely glossy sheen although the top is slightly less so on the peak, possibly as that's where it has been handled most. It's perfect as decorative storage or as statement collector's piece. As with all my vintage and antique pieces this has bumps and blemishes that reflect its previous life adding to its character and charm - there are minor dinks and wear to the surfaces but all boxes are intact and the lids, hinges and beautiful brass clasps function as intended; unlike many other boxes the pins are all present.
