Unique set of 4 checkered side plates from respected ceramic and stoneware makers Villeroy & Boch who have history dating back 265 years. These lovely mustard yellow plates are part of the 1960s 'Bern' collection and feature a chocolate brown check design. D: 18cm The makers mark reads 'Made in France-Saar Economic Union'. ~~ Founded in 1748 when François Boch and his three sons began manufacturing ceramic tableware and decorative art objects, the business merged with the successful stoneware manufacturer Nicolas Villeroy in 1836 to form Villeroy & Boch. 30 years later they established a mosaic factory which met the worldwide demand for Mettlach tiles, which now decorate historic landmarks ranging from Germany’s Cologne Cathedral to the Holland Tunnel in New York City. Floor tiles from the same factory also contributed to the interior grandeur and elegance of the RMS Titanic!...more
