This is a delightful set of Midcentury placemats showing period scenes of 1950s London. There are two designs, with two placemats in each, making a total of four in the set. “Leicester Square” is a gorgeous bit of social history. It highlights period fashion and shows cars of the time driving through what is now a pedestrian area. Search Leicester Square on Google and the current day images will show the same buildings. The stylised pink building in the centre of this placemat is currently the Hippodrome Casino. “Soho Square” shows the delightful haven of calm that still lies behind busy Oxford Street! In this scene a couple sit on the grass of the Soho Square Gardens, feeding the pigeons and admiring the iconic architecture. Around the gardens people sit on benches and chat in the sunshine. The placemats themselves are 16.5cm Square with curved corners. They are in good vintage condition in li e with light use. There are some areas of light staining on the reverse, as shown in the pictures. Personally I think they look great on plate stands, as the images are so wonderful. Postage to the UK only....more
