This beautiful hardwood sideboard was brought to the UK from Madagascar nearly 100 years ago. Made by craftsmen, the workmanship is exquisite as is the stunning brass hardware which I have removed and cleaned prior to replacing. I was striving for an antique paint texture to match the age of the piece. I used a red primer under black chalk paint and then used gold leaf and lacquer in layers to provide a base for my Handpainted flower design, the inspiration for which came from Japanese kimono fabrics with a nod to the design aesthetic of Gustave Klimt. This is a stunning vintage piece, completely unique and can be used as a Cocktail cabinet or sideboard.
