Silchester ware studio pottery vase, brown Roman

Silchester ware brown vase. Silchester ware was made by brick and tile makers S. & E. Collier in Berkshire, England between 1898 and 1966. It was inspired by the Roman pots found nearby which the pottery takes it's name from. It is characterised by the dark brown glaze and coarse clay used. This piece has the stamp on the base and a shape mark 401. Like the Roman pots it is inspired by, this shows several signs of wear and use particularly on the base. This is a vintage item and so may show signs of its previous life. There are seven chips to the base, the larges is 1.2cm in size. Please see photos for details.
