A lovely example of a hand painted Victorian flat back Staffordshire ornament, of Romeo and Juliet, lovers in a bower. The older Staffordshire flatbacks were painted in light and subtle colours, as is this one, which dates from around the 1860’s. It also has a small hole at the back which let out air during firing, which is another indication of a genuine older Staffordshire piece. Measures 21cm height x 16cm width at widest point x 8cm depth. In unusually good antique condition. The glaze is in good order, and the fragile details of foliage appear to be in unusually good condition for a piece of this age. There appears to be a little surface wear to the hair, but considering it’s in a place which wouldn’t receive much wear, I think it’s more likely to be something that occurred when the decoration was applied. **Please do check the photos as these form part of the description.
