Staffordshire Wally Dog - Waldo

We are not experts in Staffordshire Wally dogs (yet). All the reading we have done about Waldo (as he us known by us) leads us to believe that he is likely to be from the late 1800's as he doesn't have a hole in the base; so is highly likely to be press moulded rather than the later slip moulds of the 20th Century versions. He has crazing to the glaze commensurate with age and is very prettily painted. I particularly like the fact he has a black chain and a very curious little face. No makers mark - this is a positive factor, one of the rare times it is, and a small firing hole to the back. A little wear to the paint in places as you would expect. No chips though. He's a little grumpy as he thought he'd found his forever home, I have reassured him he soon will. There are some absolutely mad prices for these out there as they are back in vogue.
