This is a wonderful plate in good vintage condition (no chips or cracks, but some minor surface scratching when held to the light - see pics). The shape of the plate is Roy Midwinter’s famous “fashion shape”, designed in 1954. The design is by Hugh Carson and dates to around 1955. Casson was an architect and interior designer and was later knighted. He held a number of significant positions, including Director of Architecture for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and President of the Royal Academy. The plate itself was most likely manufactured late 50s/very early 60s. A stunning design, very evocative of its time. A hand-engraving transferred to the plate and then hand coloured. 24cm in diameter. A wonderful display piece! UK postage only....more
