Lovely tactile vintage pottery bird in the tradition of Tonala Folk Art from Mexico. Hand painted and burnished, the back and wings are decorated with curling vines and flowers. The burnished finish is achieved without an overglaze by rubbing a metal object or polished stone across the fired and decorated piece until it shines. The slight irregularity in the finish speaks of the maker's hand. The base is unmarked with a chipped 'foot' which obviously happened before firing as the red slip ground covers the chip.
