Vintage Dark Green Ceramic Leaf Plate Piled with Apples. Measurements are as follows ~ 11cm base x 18cm length x 10cm height from base to top apple. Whether hanging from a wall, or placed as an ornament, these Trompe L’Oil faux fruits offer a quirky yet stylish touch of fun, with the muted colours lending the air of an Old Master still life. We have really struggled to date this piece, but the original fascination for this type of ceramics began in 18th-century England, when new plants and animals were being discovered and shipped back to England, opening the eyes of the country. While not all households could afford unseasonal and foreign fruit and vegetables, trompe l'oeil ceramics offered elite society the chance to boast a spread of exotic cuisine all year round, demonstrating their wealth and cultural awareness.* In very good Vintage condition with no chips or cracks, but please note that the ceramic apples do have age related crazing.
