Beautiful and characterful little grebe bird hand carved in elm. It's inscribed on the base: Little Grebe Elm from Linton Mill J. Kater Pollock 4/90 I'm presuming that it's a date - April 1990 rather than indicating it was the fourth carving of ninety but I could be wrong! The wood grain is gorgeous as are the subtle features of the head; it's a lovely decorative and very tactile piece. As with all my vintage pieces this has evidence of its previous life adding to its uniqueness, character and charm - there has obviously been woodworm at some point, now long gone, and a split down the centre, which conveniently looks like the gap where the wings meet!
