Gorgeous vintage Aphrodite Vase by John Clappison. One of these vases is held as part of the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum: 'Aphrodite' vase, cast earthenware with moulded decoration, designed by William John Clappison, made by Hornsea Pottery. Vase, straight-sided, ovoid-section; cast white earthenware with matt clear glaze; decorated with moulded design of a girl's head, her hair scattered with stars. Another description suggests that as she's Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, that the stars are actually myrtle flowers which are a symbol of love. This vase is in excellent vintage condition - there is evidence inside that, almost unbelievably, someone was using this to store pens, I've managed to remove the majority of ink that was on the base but traces remain at the sides. There is a small flaw on the inside rim, this is smooth and looks to have been made in the clay during the manufacturing process. This is the 1970s version. 13.5cm x 11.5cm x 5cm P&P £6.50...more
