Vintage Italian Ceramic Ornamental Fruit Bowl. Measurements are as follows ~ 17cm Height, 17cm Across, 8cm Base Placed as an ornament, these Trompe L’Oil faux fruits and nuts offer a quirky yet stylish touch of fun. Showcasing an Apple, Lemon, Banana, Pear, Plum, Walnut and Orange, this piece dates from the 1970s to 1980s, but the original fascination for this type of ceramics began in 18th-century England. When new plants and animals were being discovered and shipped back to England, opening the eyes of the country, not all households could afford unseasonal and foreign fruit and vegetables, so trompe l'oeil ceramics offered elite society the chance to boast a spread of exotic cuisine all year round, demonstrating their wealth and cultural awareness.* As always, we have picked this piece as it would look equally at home in a retro or modern aesthetic.
