This beautiful little box is decorated with a gorgeous, embossed detailed design of bamboo, cranes and tigers. It has a lovely aged patina and is full of character and charm. I think it's likely to be Japanese (or Chinese) in origin although it doesn't appear to have a maker's mark. It's clearly been well used and loved - the silver coating has mostly worn off to reveal the copper below, which I think is a more attractive colour. The hinge is in good working order.
