This item is a stunning piece of hand carved art. Originating from New Zealand and intricately handcrafted from wood featuring beautiful carvings and natural New Zealand Paua shells The carving represents Strength, Prosperity, Fertility, Good Luck and Safe travel overseas The story behind this carving originates from the Māori legend of Maui who once caught a great fish using only a woven line and hook made from the jawbone of his Grandmother. The carving is mounted onto a wooden base/stand and so a plaque could be mounted to the lower base if giving or presenting as a gift/trophy or just to commemorate a special occasion The carving is attached to the base by 2 screws and so it does look like that the carving can be removed and hung on the wall via a carved out hole at the back This beautiful carving would make a spectacular and interesting piece to have in the home In lovely condition with only minor surface marks to the base Measurements Total height 39cm Base 14 x 13.3cm, Height 3.5cm The Hook Height 35.5cm Please see all photos as they do form part of the description Most of my items are antique or vintage and so may have some surface marks and or signs of use....more
