Vintage Repousse Box Chrysanthemum Peonies

This beautiful little box is decorated with a gorgeous, detailed repousse design of peonies and chrysanthemums, with mountains, lakes and boats adorning the sides. It's an unusual shape and has a slightly domed lid which emphasises the lovely flowers. I think it's likely to be Japanese (or Chinese) in origin although it doesn't appear to have a maker's mark. As with all my vintage and antique pieces this has evidence of its previous life adding to its character and charm. It has a lovely aged patina with some age related wear and a couple of minor dinks in the surfaces. It's clearly been used and loved; as is often the case with these boxes, the hinge holding the lid in place has broken - the lid still fits snugly on top. It's a perfect little ring or trinket box.
