Charming vintage ship in a bottle, handmade, in a mouth-blown glass bottle with cork. Attached to a varnished wooden plinth for standing. Creating ships in bottles was a popular and traditional pastime, particularly among retired sailors and fishermen. They were generally made for a hobby at home, or to sell as seaside souvenirs. I would say this one dates to the 1960’s. Measures approx 19cm in length. In good vintage condition. There is tiny nick in the cork, and a small escaped sliver of wood inside the bottle on the surface of the “sea” which would have occurred during the making process. **Please do check the photos thoroughly as these form part of the description....more
