This is a lovely hand painted Pastille Burner These were first used in Elizabethan times to help eliminate nasty smells in the home They became popular again in the 18th and 19th century’s as the designs changed and they became more affordable There is a gap in the back into which the Pastille would have been placed and then lit and the aroma would drift out of opening in the chimney making the room smell nice This particular burner takes the shape of a country Church or cottage There is no makers mark but research leads me to believe that it is Staffordshire pottery Height 14.5cm Length 16.5cm Width 7.5cm In overall lovely condition with just one small chip to the back of the chimney Please see photos Please note that most of my items are Antique or Vintage and therefore may come with some signs of usage for example minor surface wear I will always detail any chips, cracks or faults Please see all photos as they do form part of the description Thank you so much for visiting...more
