Vintage Ceramic 1970s Celery Vase Jar, made by Toni Raymond in England. Measurements are as follows ~ 8cm x 8cm Opening, 14.5cm Tall Celery Vases were invented by the Victorians, for whom celery was the caviar of vegetables - rare and worth showing off if you were lucky enough to have some. The Mediterranean plant wasn’t cultivated in England until the 1800s, so those who could afford it often kept celery in a glass vase in the middle of the table as a centerpiece until it was served. But fast forward to the 60s and 70s and Fruit & Veg Kitchenalia became a big trend. This vessel would also make a brilliant utensil jar, and what we love most about it is that it is hand painted, so every version you see for sale will be slightly different. As always, we have picked this piece as it would look equally at home in a retro or modern aesthetic. In very good Vintage condition, with some minor surface grazes - as shown in our imagery....more
