Vintage birds are one of my obsessions and this lovely set of ceramic wall mounted house martins or swallows are the first I've seen in this exact style. The stamp on the rear reads H Martin so that rather than swallows, is clearly what they are intended to be! There's also a Made in England stamp on the rear; I'm told they were produced in the 1940s - 1950s. This set are graduated in size, approximately: 14cm x 11cm 12.5cm x 10m 11.5cm x 9cm As with all my vintage pieces these have evidence of their previous life - one bird has a tiny area where the glossy top glaze hasn't covered the coloured under glaze - see picture. The same bird also has a slight divot out of the beak and wing tip where it hasn't come out of the mould perfectly during the manufacturing process; the top glaze covers this. There are no chips or cracks to any of the birds....more
