A well-executed still-life study of garlic cloves and onions, with a subdued colour palette and textured brushstrokes. Signed and dated to lower left. Framed in a solid dark oak moulding and original canvas slip. Edvin Ollers (originally Olsson) was born in 1888 in Norrtälje, Sweden. He was a Swedish artist and designer. Ollers studied at the Högre Konstindustriella Skolan in Stockholm from (1905-1909), and at the Gothenburg Museum of Drawing and Painting (1909-1910). He later went on to teach art at Östra Real and at the Tekniska Skolan in Stockholm. Well-known for this painting, he also designed ceramics, glass and metalware, becoming one of the first Swedish art industry designers. Described as ‘one of the most thoroughly cultivated artists’ by Gotthard Johansson. Oller’s work is represented in numerous collections across Scandinavia and internationally.
